Art 1 students in 2nd period joined Allied Health & Culinary for a presentation from Southland Dairy Farmers today for a unique opportunity! My students completed an anatomical gesture drawing of the stunning model, Jet. We got to hear about her milk production and witness the extraction process. Thank you Mrs. Keehn and Allied Health for coordinating this presentation! All NB Seniors interested in attending art school were invited to join a presentation given in 6th period today by Benjamin Rich from Spalding University, KyCAD division. Students learned about the studio advantage, unique schedule, and exhibition opportunities particular to Ky College of Art and Design. I am so excited to have this visitor in Art this week! Students have the privilege of experiencing debate with a National award-winning debate competitor who was the first competitor sent to Nationals for my alma mater, Murray State University. He is also my "little" brother! Cody Wall has introduced key characteristics of debate and its structure then judged our students who had speaking parts. Everyone did an excellent job providing evidence and presenting their arguments for the following art-related topics: This house believes Art should be a career pathway, This house believes in Donald Trump's proposed budget cut for the NEA, Abstract Expressionism is a valid form of art. Also this week, Art History class performed their melodramas! This slide show is the second one below. Technology Coordinator Keith Barnes is in Art! Mr. Barnes & I are assisting students in creating digital artworks this week. Students began looking at artists who make art about power, some of which use digital media. After brainstorming ideas with students, it was time to learn some skills. Here he is helping Art 1 students, Kevin Bratcher and Britney Thompson.
Today Advanced Art had a visitor from Spalding University's KyCAD division, Ben Rich, shared information on the qualities that make KyCAD a special Art school. Ben discussed the program's curriculum, media emphasis options, costs, perks, and more. After a presentation Ben gave our young artists feedback on portfolio work they brought in.
