Art 1 students in 2nd period joined Allied Health & Culinary for a presentation from Southland Dairy Farmers today for a unique opportunity! My students completed an anatomical gesture drawing of the stunning model, Jet. We got to hear about her milk production and witness the extraction process. Thank you Mrs. Keehn and Allied Health for coordinating this presentation!

Second period Art 1 and 2, and 3rd period Art 2 are in the middle of a painting workshop to develop skills for an upcoming portrait unit called Back in the Good Old Days. Students will ask for stories from a member of the elderly community and incorporate symbolism from the narratives into a portrait for them. We are using a still life painting of oranges to guide our learning of painting techniques so students can combine these skills with proportions and likeness in portrait painting. This week all Art classes have in the process of creating contest posters for our Community/Positive Behaviors Unit. This unit began last week with discussion about examples of community and how artists create objects that shape lives and communities. We are focusing on building a positive community in and outside our classroom by participating in Red Ribbon Week, SafeSchools Week, and the Adopt-a-Highway contest to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug use, bullying, and littering with our artworks. Posters will be submitted Friday! |
