These students bring me such pride! Many art club members are also in my Art classes, and watching them pour themselves into their work with every opportunity they get is inspiring. Even the students who aren't in Art classes do this, there are always creative utensils moving!
In 6th period we looked at a series by artist Robert Longo called Men in Cities. The gestural poses were our inspiration for the action photos. I adapted this lesson from a Tim Bogatz unit on Art of Education. Instead of just being a study of the figure, we made our silhouettes go places in a unit called Where Am I? They traced their silhouettes, added details, and then a background of their choice responding to the action of the figure. Here are some of our action shots. Oh yeah, I threw nerf balls at some of them to get the shots!
Today we also had Art Club members competing in a paper airplane contest!
I invite you to browse this blog often to get a taste of my favorite part of my job - the process! Here I focus on students engaging with their work. If you are looking for final products, please visit our online gallery on Artsonia.
